First 50

Just checking in quickly to show you something a bit more interesting than my ironing board; the first ready and trimmed 50 of my hour glass blocks:

After they have been trimmed they are 4 1/4" square. And I counted while ironing - there are 303 of them, which means these pictures really isn't really representative of the final result. I have been playing a lot with the thought of how to set them, and I have far from made up my mind. Any ideas? I'd apreciate all suggestions, and all opinions on the alternatives posted here as well! I have a dark honney coloured fabric with some rust roses and a dark blue I have been thinking of incorporating as well - as some sort of borders. Well se...

I love the colors in your blocks. They are so deliciously scrappy! You could do a 3 x 3 block with the pieced blocks and use your honey fabric for solid setting squares (all the more room for some fancy quilting).

Or, just keep playing with it--you'll find something you love!

I like the one on the right. Where the darks are alternated. Beautiful fabrics. Were those charms?

Anne, these turned out so neat! What marvelous reproduction fabrics! This makes for an old, antique looking quilt - just what I love. Both layouts look great but I'm partial to the one on the right - the way I'm going to set mine together. I just think there is more movement from block to block to carry the eye around the quilt. In the left picture my eyes just go from side to side but not up and down. In the right picture my eyes wander all over the surface of the quilt.

I want to do this quilt too. Have you tried a mixture of the two settings? a 2x2 in each way maybe with a sash in between?

I normally set my hourglass blocks like your 2nd photo but I do really like the first one too.

The baby quilt is so sweet. I'm sure the parents will love it.
