The project on the floor

Remember these? I made my first feathered star block back in June, just for fun, and found I wanted a Christmas quilt made up of nine of these stars. As we know Christmas is coming fast!!! So this week I finally started putting the top together, today I pieced the points on the sawtooth stars and laid it out. It is going slowly, but here is a pic of how it looks spread out on the living room floor:

Plan for tomorrow is to finish the pieces that will make up the sawtooth stars around the edges, and hopefully get the centre of the top pieced together (so that I can clear off the floor for a change *lol*). I have an idea for what I want for borders, whether or not that will happen remains to be seen :o)

Hope you're having a great weekend!
Sincerely, Anne Ida

Oh that is GORGEOUS. I love star sashing, but I wouldn't have thought to use it for feathered stars. Really a beautiful quilt.

Have you considered not finishing the outside stars? I think it's interesting to have them as they are. It's unexpected and keeps the eye moving around. Or you could complete them with the border fabric so they bleed over into the new background color?

Whatever you choose I'm sure it will be beautiful. I admire your stamina, finishing all those feathered beauties.

I just love this. I've always wanted to try a feathered star, but the patterns I've seen so far haven't had much flair. Is this your own design or is it from a book/pattern? Looking at your blocks close up, I can't tell, are there "kite" units in it? I can't figure out how they're sewn.

I'm taking a class with Marsha Mcclosky on making feathered stars. You've inspired me, I think it's going to be red and green so I can have a Christmas quilt for my bed.
