Glimpses from Göteborg/Gothenburg

We left Kolmården for Gothenburg Saturday afternoon and spent five days exploring the city. We had both been to Gothenburg before, but never just to relax and enjoy the sights.

Skansen Kronan (the fortress the Crown)

View of Haga from the walkway up to the fortress

View from the fortress

We went inside Oscar Fredrik's Church

The University building

The Opera house seen from the city street

The Opera house seen from the water

"Feskekörka" - the fish market

Football stadium

The Central Station

The Lion Steps - from the latter half of the 18th century this is where boats used to come in with goods from the far East.

Of course we had to go out on the canal

The city's largest shopping center (and we actually never made our way inside!)

Low bridge going out to the port

An office building known as "The Lipstick" - understand why

The Viking - a ship moored in the port. After this ship was bought the city built a brigde further out in the port that is too low for this ship to pass under

A reparation dock out in the port

What little is left of the medieaval city wall:

The old hospital which now serves as the teachers academy. The building was intended to be completely circular, but they ran out of funds so it ended up horse shoe shaped

The grand theatre

The great market hall

Some of the goodies you can find inside

Hugs and stitches from Anne Ida
