Vitamin Q

This weekend was quilt class with fabulous and enthusiastic Hanne - and guess what she was teaching...... Dear Jane! Thank you for a fabulous class, Hanne! On the board and table behind her are some of the blocks she has stitched from this book -not to mention the quilts she brought to show - talk about janiac :o)

A group of chatty and eager ladies had brought needles and thread, some sewing machines and we worked in a steady pace yesterday and today. Lots of tecniques were demonstrated and tried out. This is my production over the weekend:



I managed to sew a Papa'a star!!! So proud of myself! *lol* These blocks will be used in a rather special project - more about that later :o)

A little Dear Jane progress

I felt like working on something small tonight; decided to give Bernie a bit of a break and pulled out my Dear Jane project bag. Three blocks were prep'ed and stitched tonight:



My tally is now: 21 blocks, 268 pieces. And this is how it all looks so far.



You might remember that my goal is to do the whole quilt by hand, and my selfmade deadline to finish it is 2020, so I still have some time to get there ;o)

A finish and an award

If you remember this post about me going to Elverum to quilt with some of the other norwegian quilting ladies. So much inspiration stitching with a group like that - and such pretty quilts were made.

you might also remember that I brought with me some swap blocks. Well, they were pieced into a quilt top, and I got it layered (thank you Merete for helping me pin baste it!) and started quilting it while there. This is the back, and shows how it's quilted:

Thursday night I finished the quilting and today/tonight I attached the binding. And this is how it turned out:

Hopefully some young person will appreciate it :o) All that is left is to attach this cute label Lise made:

Even more red and white blocks

The weather at the moment is kind of crazy - it snowed most of the day yesterday, and there is trafic chaos in these parts of the country. The trains didn't run last night (so I ended up staying the night at my friend Leisha's place - after freezing on the platform for 3/4 hour - thank you so much for putting me up!), and going home this morning there were heaps of cancelations and delayes, what normally takes me 35 minutes took 75! This is how a corner of our back yard looks at the moment, we have not gotten the most of it, and they have cleared away lots since last night:

Last week the last two blocks in the swap arrived from Karin - thank you so much for these two beauties!

Chisholm Trail and Friendship Star Variation

With these I have 16 blocks - two I made for myself of the sets I sent away, and 14 I had received from the other participants. I want a quilt with a straight setting, and I want a rectangle rather than a square, so today I have made four more blocks.

Contrary Wife, Mill Gils, Bear's Paw, Ohio Star

The setting will be 4x5, I'm not completely decided on sashing, cornerstones, or what to do, but I'm thinking to keep it simple :o) Just for fun I layed all the blocks out on the floor to see how they looked together:

Looks great, doesn't it? I have to shuffle them around a bit before I put them together, though :o) Thank you so much to everyone who participated in this swap!

More red and white blocks

I promised to keep you updated on the red and white swap blocks; since my last post another four beautiful blocks have popped into my mailbox:

Two more red and white blocks popped into my mailbox today, these lovelies are from Åse:

This weekend there will be a quilt-together for "Warming Quilts" in Elverum, and along with some of our other blogging friends I'll be going to May Britt's to join in. I have been having a bit of a guilty concience about these blocks...

...that I swapped with some of the girls at the fabric-swap club in 2007 - so I have decided to bring them along and see if maybe I can't put them in a quilt this weekend.

I also thought I'd share some of the progress on my Sugar Camp Quilt:

14 mountain blocks to go, and the appliqué of the worm fence, indian trail, creek and mill wheel. Hope I can get some of the appliqué done in the next few days.

A resolution and some progress

Rose and I have both been feeling a bit guilty for starting new projects while there are piles of WISPs and UFOs that should have been finished, but for this year we have promised each other that we will make what we love! The UFO's aren't going anywhere (some of them might be finished), but we have solemnly promised we won't add anymore UFO's to the list. 2009 is all about finishing whatever we want to start!!! This shows our resolution for the year:

Feel free to join us in not feeling guilty - all you have to do is promise to finish what you start :o) And what is my first new project - that I won't feel guilty about and won't become a UFO? The Sugar Camp quilt of course! Suzie expressed a wish for me to show some blocks as I finished them, and of course I'm happy to obey! These are the first finished blocks of a total 36 mountain blocks and 5 landmark blocks:

I love the look of this so far! The next circle of mountains will be blue, and then there will be another brown circle before the border. I have wanted to make this quilt for so long, and I think this will be a favorite :o) It is going to be aprox 84" square, so it's quite a large quilt, and will take some time to put together.
